Farmington is the regional center for commerce, industry, retail, healthcare, government services, and recreation and entertainment. The economy is broad and diverse with a solid foundation in healthcare with BJC’s Parkland Health Center, the Missouri State Mental Health Facility, St. Francois Health Care System, and numerous physician and specialty clinics. Our retail sector includes national brands including Wal-Mart, Lowe’s, Menards, Sears, J.C Penney, Tractor Supply, Rural King, and Hobby Lobby. In addition, the community is filled with unique locally owned shops that ensure that Farmington retains its hometown feel.
The City’s unique location provides easy access to major road networks including US 67 and I-55. Downtown St. Louis is a short one-hour drive from Farmington. St. Louis – Lambert International Airport is only 90 minutes away. Farmington is surrounded by some of Missouri’s most beautiful State Parks and Mark Twain National Forest, and is located in the center of the Southeast Missouri winery country with twelve of the region’s award winning vineyards. In addition, the City of Farmington operates numerous local recreation facilities including the Farmington Civic Center, the Farmington Water Park, Engler Park complete with soccer fields, tennis courts, walking trails, disc golf course, fishing lakes, and many other amenities.
Downtown Farmington is home to the areas only skate park. Farmington is the County Seat of St. Francois County and enjoys the economic benefit of being the location of most county services. The St. Francois County Courthouse is the center of a beautiful and thriving downtown that includes both casual and fine dining venues, locally owned shops, professional office suites, and five regional banks. The City and County have invested over $14 million in new construction and improvements in the downtown in just the last decade. In addition, there has been over $10 million in private investment.
